The high maneuverability of the RPAs makes them a very versatile tool to perform a multitude of tasks inspections. Their quick and easy access to multiple data collection (visual, thermal, spectral, etc.) in areas of complex access makes them a diagnostic tool which avoids a great load of expensive and risky works for people working at height.
The wind turbine blades are a clear example of the benefits obtained by the predictive maintenance provided by the RPAS. The cracks, breaks, holes and detached can be detected early. This allows the reparation without removing the blades, a fact which would be expensive and could affect the profitability of the farm.
Offshore (oil / gas / wind) plants are another example of the benefits of these platforms.
Weather conditions to which they are subject make them have a very intensive maintenance work. The use of RPAS to control corrosion accumulation zone, fuel leaks, hot spots and structural failures and others are now a reality.
